Jerad Braaten, the UND police officer that shot David James Elliot, is receiving legal advice from Peter Welte, the former chief prosecutor in Grand Forks County.

Braaten’s legal representation has been secured by the Fraternal Order of Police. 

Welte announced his resignation abruptly in December, 2014, sending a letter to the Grand Forks County Commission saying he was leaving the county to venture into private practice with Vogel Law Firm. He also submitted an application for a district judge position in November, 2014, which he withdrew.

Welte provided no explanation for his resignation, other than to say he had received an offer by Vogel Law Firm to go back into private practice, which gave him more flexibility and “security for my family”.

BOARDWALK ENTERPRISES

Vogel Law Firm is representing Boardwalk Enterprises.

The Boardwalk Enterprises loan-fraud money-laundering scheme was exposed in April, 2014, after the Grand Forks Herald reported over half a million dollars had gone missing amidst a scheme that involved an unpaid loan through the EGF EDHA.

Timothy Charles Holmseth reported the City of East Grand Forks to the Minnesota State Auditor in December, 2013, and requested an audit.

Holmseth is the plaintiff in a Deprivation of Rights lawsuit filed in United States District Court - HOLMSETH V. CITY OF EAST GRAND FORKS ET AL.

DEATH THREATS – WITNESS TAMPERING – MINNEAPOLIS FBI

Timothy Holmseth reported Tampering with a Witness to the Minneapolis FBI and Federal Judge Leo I. Brisbois after receiving death threats in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The certified mail receipt shows the FBI received the information on February 26, 2015. The information to the FBI and United States District Court included audio, as well as reports made to the EGFPD and GFPD.

On February 28, 2015, at 12:45 a.m. UND Police Officer Jerad Braaten shot David Elliot.
